Lets say youre using SSE to install and since includes fomod-installer you makes some choices. On installation, the archive is extracted to c:vortexmods.installcombinedSSEVRABC-dir. Download goes into c:vortexdownloadscombinedSSEVR. Obviously, it can be done because other people do it, but I can't find any information online as to how they did this for some reason. Now lets say you download mod ABC including fomod-installer usable for SSE and SSEVR. I've tried to do a search for this, but I haven't come up with anything. I mean, simply converting all the animation files took like 10 to 20 minutes, for each folder! Worse yet, the thing contains THREE THOUSAND FILES!!!! That itself means if I had to do something MANUALLY, it would just be impossible. Now, I've seen mods with fomod set-ups being successfully converted, but how do you do this yourself? I'm trying to convert a mod that's only available for SE, but I don't have the expertise to do it myself. Even manually putting one of the esp files in my data folder didn't allow me to pull it up inside the creation kit to convert it. However, the fomod interface didn't come up, and no files were actually put into my skyrim folder. I converted all the animations, meshes, and texture files (the latter just to be safe), and then tried to install it.
